From dates, saffron rose petals and orange blossom to cardamom or cumin - these are but a few of the ingredients comprising the fascinating cuisine of the Middle East. Where Do We Go Now? is a 2011 film by Lebanese director Nadine Labaki. The film premiered during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival as part of Un Certain Regard. Synopsis: Christians & Muslims lived peacefully together for years in this small Lebanese village, but animosities begin to build among the men as a result of slights & misunderstandings. The women of the village conspire to avert sectarian strife though a series of harebrained plans, none of which succeeds in slowing down the escalating spiral of violence. When tragedy strikes, the women find themselves driven to make a deeply personal sacrifice for the sake of peace. Movie Duration: 110 minutes. Refreshments will be provided.

By Iman Martin Scenario: You've just arrived at Kuwait International airport and notice the wide array of costumes all around. A local gentleman is wearing a long white thobe and white headdress while a group of women are wearing the traditional long black Abaya and hijab (cloak & scarf). Another glance and you view a woman fully covered with niqab (face veil). If one were to ask the man why does he choose to dress as he does? He'd likely respond, "It's my culture and traditional dress dictates my clothing choice". Yet if the same question was addressed to the women they might respond, "It is our religion which dictates the way we dress". This is just one example so join us as we reveal many aspects between religion and culture of Kuwaitis' daily life.

I'm just watching the BBC News and they are addressing the issue of maltreatment of domestic workers in Kuwait. 7 deaths of Filipinos domestic workers last year alone and a whopping 5,800 cases of abuse filed with the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait over the last year. #Kuwait #humanrights #swsorg #OFW #Duterte

As the wife and mother of Kuwaitis this really hurts, doubly. Firstly, my heart breaks for this poor girl and the 1000s of others suffering abuse, non-payment of salaries, no day-off, etc. And secondly, it is so painful to see all of Kuwait and Kuwaitis tarred with the same brush. I hope and pray that rules will be enforced to ensure the safety and dignity of all workers here and those who dirty Kuwait's name to be punished to the limit.

Calling All Budding Writers

This is what I think I know. We all have a story. You may not think you do but you do. It may be raw open wounds that you can't face or rationalise yet but you will. I think knowing your story is about timing. You may know other stories but it takes a while and some insight to know yours. The good thing about knowing your story I believe is what you learn from it that makes it yours,of course there can be many chapters of the story. The story is always changing and we don't know where it will go but it's yours. Can we change the outcome of the story? Absolutely.

Your story is like the first trip to the therapist and you pay to talk about you and what's bothering you, no input from the therapist. It happened to me on my one and only trip to the therapist it was like an ephiphany. Bam! Here I was hearing myself complain about the most inane things and I realised that's why you verbalise out loud so you can hear yourself whine. Therapy done. KD 35 for a epiphany is pretty good value. Writing can be your epiphany. The Writing Hub is holding a local writers one day conference which could encourage you to share yours, at least with yourself. The Writing Hub Conference details [link].
