MIDDLE EASTERN COOKING COURSE

Starting Thursday, April 6, 2017 Food of the Middle East brings with it a variety of exotic flavors. While some dishes will be fragrant others will be spicy, delicate or at times, even syrupy. From dates, saffron rose petals and orange blossom to cardamom or cumin - these are but a few of the ingredients comprising the fascinating cuisine of the Middle East. AWARE Diwaniya: HISTORY OF KUWAIT’S DEMOCRACY

They have included some of the major protests in the history of the Country, an unprecedented incident where a Kuwaiti lady was jailed for expressing her opinion, & lots more. The root of it all goes back many years. This Diwaniya will shed light on the History of Democracy in Kuwait, & how the country reached its current status. AlBara AlWuhaib is an activist, who served several organizations. He volunteered in the Kuwaiti Red Crescent during the Iraq war in 2003. He's also a member in the Kuwaiti Human Rights Foundation, the Kuwait Transparency Society, a founder of a Book Reading Club (as part of AlJalees project), & the Assistant Manager for the Kuwait Memorial Museum. AWARE Movie Night: The Message

The film follows Muhammad's first years as a prophet starting with Islam's beginnings in Mecca in which the Muslims are persecuted, the exodus to Medina, & ending with the Muslims' triumphant return to Mecca. A number of crucial events, such as the battle of Badr & the battle of Uhud are depicted, & the majority of the story is told from the point-of-view of peripheral individuals such as Hamzaibn` Abd Al-Muttalib (Muhammad's Uncle), Abu Sufyan (the leader of Mecca) & his wife Hind bint Utbah (enemies of Islam who later become Muslims themselves). Movie Duration: 180 minutes approx. Popcorn and Drinks will be provided.


GUIDED TOUR: GRAND MOSQUE

For a rewarding, spiritual & informative experience. This is a 1½ tour of one of Kuwait’s most famous landmarks. Ladies are required to cover - long sleeves and long ankle length skirt, otherwise the mosque will provide a cloak. If you have your own scarf you’re welcome to bring it. Cameras are allowed. Children are welcome. This tour meets directly at the Grand Mosque
