A Gigantic Tyre Fire in Kuwait

A gigantic fire erupted in the early hours of yesterday morning in Rehaya area near Al Jahra in Kuwait where over 5 million old tyres are stocked. Fire Brigades  rushed from several areas in Kuwait to fight the fire assisted by the National Guard, the Army and Kuwait Oil Company. The fire is still raging and a heavy smoke has covered the sky. According to sources 3 days might be needed at least to extinguish the fire.

Update: The MOI has just announced that firefighters have succeeded in putting out the fire at 23:30 KLT yesterday  by burying it completely with sand .

This tyre dump was just recently in the news when residents were complaining about it as a major safety hazard.

LWDLIK - Thank God for all this sand it could have been an environmental disaster. Seems MOE were getting ready to close all schools in the north of Kuwait, luckily - this time - catastrophe averted.
