The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan

This is a documentary about the perverse Afghani tradition of Bacha Bazi (Boy Play). The reason I post this link is to raise awareness, and in raising awareness hopefully have the powers that be intervene, impose rules to protect these boys and stop this wretched cruel practise.

Utmost respect for the courageous Afghan journalist in exile, Najibullah Quraishi, for having the bravery and guts to do this, even though it surely puts a death sentence on him.

WARNING THIS IS FOR ADULT VIEWING ONLY!

To those who may be offended - my apologies. There is a saying, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" – Edmund Burke. We can choose to bury our heads in the sand and ignore; or we can open our eyes, see and demand change. And yes, I believe these children deserve a much better life than this.

A very disturbing account of harsh cruelty in these modern times. The same ordeal was experienced by Hazan in the book Kite Runner. I salute Quraishi and Khaled Houssini for their efforts. I felt pity for these kids. Blessed are the poor in spirit for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs...

a very shocking video, I agree Najibullah Quraishi is very brave for risking his life to make the video in order to raise awareness and help these poor boys. God help them!

Thanks for giving me another reason to hate humanity!

  4. Good Morning Anon 1, agree very disturbing.

When I first read about it in the book (The Kite Runner) I had not realised that this was a common happening.

If you don't know it's wrong, aren't prosecuted, are dirt poor (the victims) then I guess it's a way of life.

Yes, a harsh reality indeed. That this would be the norm for some people.

Thanks for your comment. I think God is in all of us and the responsibilty is on humans to be more humane. To educate, help and guide those that are lost and misinformed.

  6. Good Morning EB :OD, life can be dark and twisted. But there is always light.

You must believe that the majority of people are good. Sadly in Afghanistan war and poverty has desensitised them.

We live in our little, five star air-conditioned bubble and whine about this and that. There is a big wide world out there where people are scrapping together a life from nothing, against incredible odds, with a war going on.

They have the right to hate humanity.

It is the afghan kids fault... why didn't they tweet there experience or email some one about it? They should think of that next time there having a happy meal or mochachino.

Don't worry about the victims or abusers, some GCC money will find it is way there, and both will be told, just hate and kill those who we till you to and all will be forgiven!

On an "un" related note, am going to watch that pbs documentary tonight.

    ohh forgot the important part:

"You must believe that the majority of people are good"

That is funnier than "there is always light".

To both I say bahahaha, but the attempt of cheering people up is nice, thank you.

  9. EB, you have to look hard for the light sometimes but even in darkest circumstances there's always hope. Yes, I want to believe that the majority are good because it is too horrible to contemplate otherwise.

I'm choosing to look at the glass half full.

People are bad, if this bothers us, we have to be good. Being good includes being positive.

So one can be positive yet realize that people suck. :)

The light is there...but only good people find it :)
