Wow! 45% divorce rate in Kuwait makes them No.1 in the Gulf and No.2 globally..

KUWAIT CITY, May 29: Muslim scholar and researcher Sheikh Radhi Habib has attributed the high rate of divorce in the Kuwaiti society to continuous reporting of matrimonial problems by couples in police stations, reports Al-Anba daily.
Sheikh Habib noted that recent statistics released by the Legal Documentation Department at the Justice Ministry indicates the country has recorded 49,000 divorces in the last 10 years. He added another social study also revealed that 45 percent of Kuwaiti men and women- about half of the society, are involved in divorce cases.
He stated Kuwait is first in the Arabian Gulf and second globally in divorce cases. He went on to express concern over the level of divorce and accompanying devastation, as it remains a major stumbling block against family growth and development. He added that Islam guides against this untoward phenomenon by considering it as ‘the less fancied permitted action’ for Muslims.
The Muslim researcher reiterated the incessant reporting of matrimonial cases to police is the bane of marriages in Kuwait, where wives are fond of reporting every little action by their husbands, escalating already tensed situations.

  2. For me it's a little surprising as it's a new phenomena here in Kuwait. I think it shows that women are more liberated (if they weren't they would certainly be trying harder to please their husbands) and secondly, perhaps, it will signal a change in the non-existant pre-marriage dating rules here.
