Gypsy Passion back by demand..

Gypsy Passion is a journey that takes us to the heart of Flamenco. Flamenco is an individualistic, yet structured folk art from Spain. The song, dance and guitar are blended together by the passionate rhythms of southern Spain which is flamenco's geographical birthplace. Gypsies say that Flamenco is in the blood, but Spain’s most famous poet and writer Federico Garcia Lorca, called flamenco one of the most gigantic inventions of the Spanish people. The tragic lyrics and tones of flamenco clearly reflect the sufferings and passionate emotions of the different cultures that blended and came to be what the Iberian Peninsula is today.

Gypsy Passion incorporates music, dance and the poetry of Federico García Lorca to create a dream like state which takes us into de soul of the emotions expressed in flamenco: love, pain, death, passion, desire and longing. For a preview and to learn more about Ana see her blogspot [link]

Best pancake recipe ever..

Ingredients:
• 3 large eggs
• 115g/4oz plain flour
• 1 heaped teaspoon baking powder
• 140ml/5fl oz milk
• a pinch of salt

These American pancakes are great! Instead of being thin and silky like French crêpes, they are wonderfully fluffy and thick and can be made to perfection straight away.

First seperate the eggs, putting the whites into one bowl and the yolks into another. Add the flour, baking powder and milk to the yolks and mix to a smooth thick batter. Whisk the whites with the salt until they form stiff peaks. Fold into the batter – it is now ready to use.

Heat a good non-stick pan on a medium heat. Pour some of your batter into the pan and fry for a couple of minutes until it starts to look golden and firm. At this point  loosen with a spatula and flip the pancake over (if you wish to add blueberries, banana or whatever do so now on uncooked side, personally I like my fruit seperate). Continue frying until both sides are golden.

You can make these pancakes large or small, to your liking. You can serve them simply doused in maple syrup or, as I like to do them, add a teaspoon of sugar to the batter along with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and rind of an orange. Cook, then before serving add some honey and fresh orange wedges. YUM!
Be experimental try buttermilk instead of regular milk or for some naughtiness add some dessicated coconut to batter and slap on some Nutella after it's cooked... it's up to you.

When I'm in a hurry, which is most mornings,  I don't seperate eggs just throw it all in together not as fluffy but taste good.

Thank you Jamie Oliver and me :O)

Hope you enjoy them Lorie x

LWDLIK- So what are you waiting for..

Unbelievable! A smoking 2 year old child

Wow! 45% divorce rate in Kuwait makes them No.1 in the Gulf and No.2 globally..

KUWAIT CITY, May 29: Muslim scholar and researcher Sheikh Radhi Habib has attributed the high rate of divorce in the Kuwaiti society to continuous reporting of matrimonial problems by couples in police stations, reports Al-Anba daily.
Sheikh Habib noted that recent statistics released by the Legal Documentation Department at the Justice Ministry indicates the country has recorded 49,000 divorces in the last 10 years. He added another social study also revealed that 45 percent of Kuwaiti men and women- about half of the society, are involved in divorce cases.
He stated Kuwait is first in the Arabian Gulf and second globally in divorce cases. He went on to express concern over the level of divorce and accompanying devastation, as it remains a major stumbling block against family growth and development. He added that Islam guides against this untoward phenomenon by considering it as ‘the less fancied permitted action’ for Muslims.
The Muslim researcher reiterated the incessant reporting of matrimonial cases to police is the bane of marriages in Kuwait, where wives are fond of reporting every little action by their husbands, escalating already tensed situations.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY AT THE SCIENTIFIC CENTRE

Changed to 19th June NOT 12th.

5pm-8pm at centre court area.

World Environment Day (WED) 2010 is aimed to be the biggest, most widely celebrated, global day for positive, environmental action.
Through WED, we are able to give a human face to environmental issues and enable people to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
WED is also a day for advocating partnerships among all stakeholders or perhaps, even more correctly, among all species living on this one planet and sharing a common future. Commemorated on June 5, since 1972, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
The Scientific Center of Kuwait plans to celebrate the day on June 12th changed to 19th, 2010. We have planned loads of activities for University students along with some educational presentations at the IMAX Theater, arts & crafts for kids and more!!! One of the main events will be “Decorate your Grocery Bag” where participants from various universities will decorate grocery bags with environment messages. We will create competitive environment by inviting teachers & students to support their college teams.
We will also be launching our recycling program in The Scientific Center along side MRC.

Kuwait court upholds death for 'arson' wife

(AFP) – 6 hours ago

KUWAIT CITY — The Kuwaiti appeals court on Wednesday confirmed a death sentence against a woman convicted of setting fire to the wedding tent as her husband took a second wife, killing 57 women and children, her lawyer said.
"We still believe it's a harsh sentence. We will challenge the verdict at the supreme court," Zaid al-Khabbaz told AFP by telephone after the ruling was announced.
The lower court sentenced Nasra Yussef Mohammed al-Enezi, 23, in March after convicting her of "premeditated murder and starting a fire with the intent to kill."
Enezi had denied the charge and her defence lawyers said her indictment contained no material evidence to convict her.
The August 15 inferno engulfed the women-and-children-only tent in minutes and triggered a stampede. The final death toll was 57, including Saudis and stateless Arabs as well as Kuwaitis.
Enezi was initially believed to be the groom's ex-wife but defence lawyers said she was still married to him, as men are allowed to have more than one wife in the conservative Muslim emirate.
Enezi and her husband have two children together, both of them mentally handicapped.
If her death sentence is upheld by the supreme court, she would be the first Kuwaiti woman to be executed in the Gulf state's history.
Women from other nationalities have been hanged in the past, however.
Kuwait has executed a total of 72 people, three of them women, since it introduced the death penalty some four decades ago. Most of the condemned have been convicted murderers or drug traffickers.

LWDLIK- As a mother myself and knowing how hard it can be with a normal, healthy child I can not imagine how hard it must be to have two mentally handicapped children and then learn your husband is out marrying someone else. Surely a plea of temporary insanity should be allowed. I know the death toll was very high and it must have been an horrendous way to die but still can't help but feel sorry for her. Anyone else?

Hmmm that seems expensive for a fart..

Thank you Italo's, Avenues Mall and Debs for the great lunch today and the laughs..

Avenues Mall Car Park Occupied and Vacant Slots Lighting System

This is very cool and I've only just noticed it. It could have been in place a while but I've only just cottoned on. There is a lighting system installed above each car parking space. Simple green for vacant and red for occupied you can see along the whole line of spaces, it's really very cool. Saves going up and down aisles looking. As soon as a car vacates a space the light goes green. Ya gotta love Al Shaya..

Much clearer and redder in reality.

Trust me, telling fibs is sure sign of success...it seems.

From The Sunday Times May 16, 2010

Toddlers who can fib by the time they are two could be the chief executives of tomorrow.
A five-year-old girl in the laboratory test was told not to turn round to see what soft toy was behind her. However, once her adult minder left on the excuse of taking a telephone call, she swivelled her head to look at Barney, a cuddly purple dinosaur.
When asked minutes later she denied peeking but said she thought it was Barney behind her. How did she know? “Well, God came into the room and whispered in my ear.”
Little children who tell such big fibs should not be a worry for parents. Scientists have discovered that a child who claims “the dog ate my homework” may have a future career in the City. Researchers who carried out a study of 1,200 children say the fact that a child has learnt to tell a lie shows they have reached an important step in their mental development.
A majority of the human guinea pigs aged two to 16 told porkies but it is the children with better cognitive abilities who can tell the best lies. They have developed “executive functioning”, which means they are able to keep the truth at the back of their mind so their fib sounds more convincing.
At the age of two, 20% of children will lie. This rises to 50% by three and almost 90% at four. Parents of troublesome youths may not be surprised that the curve peaks at the age of 12 when almost all of them will be deceitful. The tendency starts to fall away by the age of 16, when it is 70%.
As adulthood approaches, young people learn instead to use the less harmful “white lies” that everyone tells to avoid hurting people’s feelings.
Researchers say there is no link between telling fibs in childhood and any tendency to cheat in exams or to become a fraudster later in life. Nor does strict parenting or a religious upbringing have any impact.
Healthy, intelligent children learn to lie quicker, but parents have to learn to distinguish between the harmless make believe — such as an imaginary friend — and the fibs told to protect or better the child.
There is a “Pinocchio peak” about the age of seven after which it is hard to discern whether a boy or girl is lying without evidence.
Kang Lee, director of the Institute of Child Study at Toronto University, which carried out the research, said: “You have to catch this period and use the opportunity as a teachable moment.
“You shouldn’t smack or scream at your child but you should talk about the importance of honesty and the negativity of lying. After the age of eight the opportunities are going to be very rare.”
The research team invited younger children — one at a time — to sit in a room with hidden cameras. A soft toy was placed behind them.
When the researcher briefly left the room, the children were told not to look. In nine out of 10 cases cameras caught them peeking. But when asked if they had looked, they almost always said no. They tripped themselves up when asked what they thought the toy might be. One little girl asked to place her hand underneath a blanket that was over the toy before she answered the question. After feeling the toy but not seeing it, she said: “It feels purple so it must be Barney.”
Lee, who caught his son Nathan, 3, looking at the toy, said: “We even had cameras trained on their knees because we thought their legs would fidget if they were telling a lie, but it isn’t true.”
Older children were set a test paper but were told they must not look at the answers printed on the back.
Some of the questions were easy, such as who lives in the White House. But the children who looked at the back gave the printed answer “Presidius Akeman” to the bogus question “Who discovered Tunisia?” When asked how they knew this, some said they learnt it in a history class.
Joan Freeman, professor of lifelong learning at Middlesex University in London and the author of How to Raise a Bright Child, said: “Clever children are going to be better at lying. Most youngsters grow out of lying if it is not an acceptable part of their culture. But if you are running a business when you grow up you might want to get away with something — and not telling the whole truth is on the edge of morality.”
Margaret McAllister, a leading educational psychologist, said: “Just because a child is bright I don’t think they are more likely to lie. But if they do, they will lie better and tell more complicated lies.”

Party Madness..

Ahhh! Big birthday pool party for my princess is today with invitees in excess of 100+ including kids, mommies and nannies. Starting to think I will not survive this, divorce is on the cards and I've upped my BP medication just in case ..LOL..
Am I the only one who has a whole succession of panic attacks and big regrets over ever planning a party (seriously thinking that a weekend in Dubai at Atlantis would have been a much better choice).
So to others out there who share this dilemma take comfort in knowing you are not alone :O)

Ooops..

A number of containers at Dubai Airport got shifted towards the tail end of this plane upsetting the balance of the aircraft and causing its nose to raise up.

Please make a small donation to Bayt Abdulla, the first and only children's hospice. Buy the pin... wear it...your support counts..

Bayt Abdullah Children’s Hospice is designed to accommodate the needs of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families, in Kuwait. The hospice building itself is part of a continuum of care that offers children and their families the maximum freedom of choice without compromising the quality of that care, whether at home in hospital or within the hospice itself. This fully comprehensive service will offer day care facilities, residential respite, emergency and terminal care The design has focused on the needs of children and their families with the emphasis on an attractive, child friendly, inter-active environment and a comfortable, homely atmosphere, supported by trained, highly skilled paediatric nursing and medical staff.

Why Bayt Abdullah?
The proposed children's hospice for Kuwait was inspired by a young boy called Abdullah who returned to Kuwait following treatment in London for neuroblastoma. After lengthy hospital stays and often painful procedures there was eventually no further treatment possible that would offer hope for a cure.
Abdullah's mother promised him that he would never again have to stay in a hospital.
In 1989, after attending a series of lectures organised by KACCH on children's perceptions of death and dying, Abdullah's mother approached KACCH, and it was agreed that they would help her take care of her little boy at home. Abdullah died in her arms at home just before his fifth birthday.
Witnessing Abdullah and his family's courage and determination to live as normal a life as possible in the face of his approaching death, encouraged KACCH to work towards the provision of similar care for other children in Kuwait who are terminally ill. A children's hospice has now been designed to give those children the specialised care they need, ensuring peace and dignity at the end of their short lives, and provide their families with support and comfort in their bereavement. It will be called “Bayt Abdullah” in memory of Abdullah and his family.

LWDLIK- This is a privately funded project by some of the most dedicated and caring people in Kuwait. Thank you Margaret Al Sayer, her family and team of volunteers for their unyeilding determination and hard work, their love, compassion and humanity and their fine example of what God expects of all of us.
A child dying is a sad thought and  for them to die in a ward of a government hospital here in Kuwait is unbearable. Pls donate.. it's a great feeling to help others in need.

KACCH- Kuwait Association for the Care of Children in Hospital
BACCH- Bayt Abdullah Children's Hospital
are both non-profit organisations.

A T.Rex named 'Sue' at The Scientific Centre from today

Courtesy of Wikipedia-
Sue Hendrickson, amateur paleontologist, discovered the most complete (approximately 85%) and, until 2001, the largest, Tyrannosaurus fossil skeleton known in the Hell Creek Formation near Faith, South Dakota, on 12 August 1990. This Tyrannosaurus, nicknamed "Sue" in her honor, was the object of a legal battle over its ownership. In 1997 this was settled in favor of Maurice Williams, the original land owner. The fossil collection was purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History at auction for USD 7.6 million, making it the most expensive dinosaur skeleton to date. From 1998 to 1999 Field Museum of Natural History preparators spent over 25,000 man-hours taking the rock off each of the bones. The bones were then shipped off to New Jersey where the mount was made. The finished mount was then taken apart, and along with the bones, shipped back to Chicago for the final assembly. The mounted skeleton opened to the public on May 17, 2000 in the great hall (Stanley Field Hall) at the Field Museum of Natural History. A study of this specimen's fossilized bones showed that "Sue" reached full size at age 19 and died at age 28, the longest any tyrannosaur is known to have lived. Early speculation that Sue may have died from a bite to the back of the head was not confirmed. Though subsequent study showed many pathologies in the skeleton, no bite marks were found.Damage to the back of the skull may have been caused by post-mortem trampling. Recent speculation indicates that "Sue" may have died of starvation after contracting a parasitic infection from eating diseased meat; the resulting infection would have caused inflammation in the throat, ultimately leading "Sue" to starve because she could no longer swallow food. This hypothesis is substantiated by smooth-edged holes in her skull which are similar to those caused in modern-day birds that contract the same parasite.

LWDLIK- Hmmm so it wasn't cigarettes..
